Part II
A tough old brother and father figure gets devastated
Bunchy is not the only one in the family who is damaged. Ray has his own scars as well. When Mike is finally back with his family they all learn that he had killed the wrong priest. The brothers plan to drag the abusive priest to the boxing club and take revenge. We see the priest tied up on a chair with blood all over his face as he had been bitten up by the angry brothers. It's at that point that the priest reveals something that no one has heard before.
When Ray is pointing his gun at the priest, he says: "Ray, you were my favorite." and that's where we learn Ray had been abused as a child by the same priest as well. At that point, he has no choice but to shoot the priest in the head and they bury him at a construction site.
Alcohol is the best friend of Ray. We see him in a lot of scenes, trying to numb himself by drinking hardcore liquor. Besides the Calabasas family house, he had a modern apartment in downtown LA and that's where he drinks in his solitude.
What devastates Ray the most is the death of Abby, his wife. She finds out she has high-stage cancer and she dies pretty soon. Ray goes through a lot of changes from that point. In the latest seasons, a billionaire woman in New York hires him and he moves there and it's from that point that all settings and locations change in the show; so does Ray. He gets so mentally damaged that he can not be away from the liquor and he starts having hallucinations. In one of these episodes, he sees Abby walking up a staircase. Ray follows her and finds himself on the roof of a skyscraper on the Hudson riverbank. He ends up jumping off the roof and falling into the river. A police officer sees the event and rescues him. But he doesn't do what he is legally supposed to so and takes Ray to his home and takes care of him. It takes a while until Ray recovers and develops a friendship with the messed-up officer and they kind of start working together and that becomes a new chapter in his life.
They filled the show with a lot of scenes including fighting, burying bodies out of town, drinking, sex, foul language, prostitution and even cutting bodies into pieces. It's in the latest seasons that Ray's daughter is kidnapped by a gang. Ray and his family ambush the kidnappers' hiding place and kill them all. And they have cleaned up the mess and take care of the bodies. The whole family including Ray's daughter use electric saw to cut the bodies into small pieces and then put them in small bags and drown the bags in the river.
