Ray Donovan
Part I
Have you made a mess and you do not know how to clean it up? Leave it to Ray.
Ray, a badass fixer based in Hollywood, expects calls from his wealthy clients who are mostly show business celebrities. The show begins when a young gorgeous actress who has a huge crush on Ray calls him early in the morning and complains about a stalker who is taking photos of her beach house. Ray gets on his Mercedez and gets there as soon as possible and finds the slender man masturbating while the young actress is on her deck watching the ocean waves.
Rays and his mentor Ezra have fixed numerous messes created by celebrities throughout the years and they have made shit tones of cash out of this baseness. Ray leaves with his wife Abby and his teenaged son and daughter in his expensive Calabasas house.
Ray has two brothers who manage a boxing club. Bunchy, his younger brother suffers from PTSD as a priest had abused him in childhood in Boston. The family speaks with a Texas accent and they also have an Irish root.
Ray's complicated character, which is full of inner conflicts, represents the terrible childhood he had had because of his irresponsible father. His dad had left the family when their mom was sick and dying and that's how Ray had become a provider to the family. He still is the father figure to his younger brothers, who are both affected by their tough childhood.
Mike Donovan comes out of prison to revenge
Mike, the irresponsible father who had left the family for his girlfriend, is released from prison and Boston church is the first place he visits. We see in a dramatic scene that the priest whom Mike thinks had abused Bunchy, is lying dead on the floor with blood all over the floor. The first thing Miky does is take revenge for his youngest son.
Ray is not happy when he sees his dad after many years and in fact, he is mad at him for coming back to the family. Ray knows that his father is going to put his brothers in a lot of trouble again and asks Mike to leave. Mike, who is now an old man, wants to stay and prove that he cares about his sons and the only people he wants to be with are his family.
The Donovan brothers, who are in their forties, technically represent their family issues during childhood. An absentee father and a sick mom who had died before their eyes have conflicted their characters and given them a great deal of pain and sorrow. They have grown up with rage and Ray, who has always taken care of the family, has developed a grudge against his father.
Mike tries to get close to his grandchildren but Ray does not let him near his kids. Mike, who is a master of plays, finally finds his way to the heart of his sons and grandchildren.
