THE BIG BANG THEORY
PART I
The story begins when Leonard and Sheldon, two nerdy physicist roommates, come back to their apartment building after giving their semen sample for money. As they walk in their hallway, they are surprised by seeing Penny, their hot new neighbor, who has moved to LA to become an actress.
Penny is a gorgeous young woman who is chased by lots of hot tall and rich guys and Leonard, who as Sheldon once mentions, is a homunculus nerdy scientist, feels insecure in competing with all those young men. However, Penny is tired of dating "dumb guys from the gym" and is looking for someone who understands her and that's how the two neighbors bound as friends and later they fall in love.
Raj, an astrophysicist working in Caltech, and Howard, an MIT graduate robotics engineer, are two other members of the team, and the four of them form a gang of nerds and Penny becomes "The queen of nerds".
The contrast between the four young scientists and Penny creates a lot of hilarious moments and the 12 seasons of the show include many of these funny situations.
good writing always works
If you ask The Big Bang Theory fans what kept them loyal to the show for 12 years, one of the first responses you get is: "good writing". The screenplay is well crafted and pays attention to every detailed aspect of the nerd characters of the show. There are a lot of scientific physics facts discussed in funny dialogues on the show from Schrödinger cat to String Theory and sub-particles. They go through a wide range of experiments in Leonard and Sheldon's apartment. In one episode Penny's hot [but dumb] boyfriend joins them on the roof where they are trying to send laser rays to the moon and receive back the reflection on their high-tech devices. That's when Penny realizes she can no longer date stupid guys and she finds Leonard more attractive than any time. This happens when Zack is asked to put on protective goggles and he says: "Oh does it come in 3D? And how can you make sure you are not going to blow up the moon!" and Sheldon says sarcastically: "Penny can do much better than Zack!"
Dr.Sheldon Cooper, played by Jim Parson, is the character who makes the show unique. A tall, slender, constantly talking character who gives everyone a hard time. He is way ahead of all his counterparts and friend scientists in the show. His odd behavior causes people to consider him crazy from time to time and it's in those situations that he says: "I'm not crazy. My mother had me tested."
Howard and Raj use a sophisticated computerized dating system to find Sheldon a date and to their surprise, the software matches Sheldon with Amy, who is a neuroscientist, spending all her time researching lab monkeys' behavior. Sheldon finds Amy a person who does not waste her time on "mating and coitus" And that is exactly the kind of companion he needs on his way to get the noble prize in Physics.
