TWO AND A HALF MEN II

TWO and a half MEN

Part II

One of the first questions that cross our minds about a TV show that has run successfully for 12 years is: "What kept millions of viewers for such a long time?" We usually see in these series that kid characters grow up and young characters walk into their middle age. In another word, viewers age with characters.

One major theme of the show is the post-divorce life of American families. Is the show taking a side? Some would say:" Yes, the writers are taking men's side. In my opinion, they developed the script in a way that shows American men's life after divorce and the challenges they go through as single parents. This does not necessarily mean that the creators are misogynists.

Alan has worked hard as a chiropractor for years to build up a life, buy a house, pay a mortgage, grow up a kid and take care of his wife. He has been a typical man figure as a provider for the family. Suddenly, Judith, his wife, decides to step away from married life with Alan and try different options. Alan is mandated to pay alimony, child support, and Judith's lawyer fees. It doesn't take him longer than a night to become homeless and ask his brother to provide him with a roof over his head.

This is in fact the life story of most of the divorced men in the US. It takes them between 3 and 6 months to downgrade from 100 to zero.
