HOUSE OF GUCCI II

House of GUCCI

Part II

In this part, we focus on the two characters that technically form the turn of events in House of Gucci. Patrizia, who is officially named a Gucci after marrying their son, and Paolo, the vulnerable, troubled son of Aldo.  When Patrizia realizes how weak and neglected Paolo is she pays him a visit to his designing studio. This whole meeting and the arrangements made between them are held without Maurizio's knowledge and later he complains to Patrizia for keeping him in dark and acting behind his back.

Paolo who has been constantly mocked by his father and uncle and his ideas are never welcome in Gucci line of business, has a grudge against the founders of Gucci. Patrizia tells him how great his work is and her intention for giving him his own production line, but in exchange, he needs to give Patrizia some information about the skeletons Aldo is keeping in his closet.

Paolo who is tempted by the idea of having his own line and also wants to prove himself to his father and also punish him gives Patrizia what she wants. He declares that Aldo has done a significant tax fraud in the US and if they report this to the IRS, he will be in big trouble.

Patrizia talks his husband into revealing the truth and putting his uncle in prison, and Maurizio finally agrees to do whatever his wife has plotted for the family.

Aldo is arrested in New York and loses all his property. The court sentences him to spend one year in prison. In the meantime, Maurizio and his conspirator wife get into Paolo again and talk him into selling Aldo's share of Gucci to a different company which is fifty percent of the giant clothing empire.

Godfather and House of Gucci

As it was mentioned in part one of this article, the movie reminds us of many familiar scenes from Godfather. Michael Corleone[played by Al Pacino in Godfather] went through a change of character. He fell into the well of power and the greed for power and being in charge took him so down that he ended up killing his own brother.

In House of Gucci, we kind of observe the same situation with Maurizio. When financial police siege his mansion to arrest him, he escapes through the backdoor and rides his motorbike to France. When Patrizia and her daughter join him in the Ski resort, she finds out that Maurizio is having an affair with an ex-girlfriend.

Pina the Psychic

Patrizia bounds with Pina [played by Salma Hayek] from the beginning. She is actually the one who tells her she can conquer the world with her man from the Gucci family, but she needs to lead the way. When Maurizio puts his uncle in prison and makes him sell his share, he has actually walked into the shadow side and he is not a grey character anymore. He becomes a monster who tears his family business apart and leaves his wife and child for an ex-girlfriend. Pina is the one who sees the affair in her visions, but she refuses to tell Patrizia. However, eventually, Pina introduces a hitman to Patrizia and arranges a meeting with him. Patrizia is determined to take revenge and pays the hitman to murder his husband.

House of Gucci is about a Gold digger who finds her way into a rich family and conspires to tear the family apart. in fact she succeeds, but everything turns against her in the end and she is abandoned by the very same geeky man she had been leading throughout the 20 years of relationship and marriage.
